What a week!
This week I conferenced with each student
about his/her Genius project. Most of the students are excited about their
projects and even expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have more freedom
in their education. Although almost all
the students are diligently working on their projects some are not keeping up
with their blogs so I reminded them that this is a writing class so the grade
they get from the project will be based solely on their writing. This means that a students’ project may not
go at all as he planned but if he does his writing well he could get an A. Besides
meeting with the 17 students for 30 minutes each, I have also had problems with
my own blog.
I needed to add two
addresses to my blog but when I did it changed all the addresses so they no
longer worked. Mr. Caples (Math instructor and IT extraordinaire) worked with
me for an hour to try to resolve the issue. We finally got the addresses to
work but now they look bad because it changed the background color on 16 of the
addresses!
On a good note, I did
get our venue finalized for the Genius Hour presentations. We will be
presenting our projects to the public on Tuesday, May 1 at 6:00 in the evening.
Take Root Café in town has graciously
opened their theater for us. Next I must locate a mic system and a projector we
can use that evening.
